This line in the book kind of bothered me. I say that just for that fact that Turner sounded as though he was trying to bring America back to the golden age of television and then quickly went against what he believed in order to just earn a profit. News no doubt is a very important part of television today, as well as the society that we all live in, but the way Ted Turner went about it to me was a bad thing. It was almost like "I guess if I have too" sort of deal. It just makes me mad how quickly the influence of money and power can corrupt or change someone. This book is really helping me get a different perspective on the big corporations today as well as the different forms of communication and how we receive our information.
I completely agree with you. This quote upset me when I read it, and for the same reason. It's really hard to find a decent owner of a big corporation and greed is the biggest cause of it. They say money is the root of all evil, and this book is showing more and more examples of how this is true.
