Dashboard Phone Mount

This article is about a device meant to be placed on the dashboard of a car to hold a smart phone and keep it from flying around while the car is moving. I find this kind of device amusing in the same way that the hush-a-phone from our book was amusing. It is probably a useful device but seems silly. I typically keep my phone in my purse while driving, some people keep them in their pockets, and most cars have nifty little nooks and crannies around the radio and temperature controls which work well for holding cellphones. I disagree with the articles statement the device is "as simple as simple can be" because my boyfriend has an item with a similar purpose which is definitely more simple. On his dashboard is an approximately index-card sized rectangle of rubber that he simply sits his phone on when he drives. I have included below a picture of the most similar device I could find in Google Images. (Does anyone else recognize the amusingly outdated phone in the picture?) However, even this one is fancier and larger than the one in my boyfriend's car.

  1. I can't help but feel frustrated when companies make different things than other companies, but pretty much for the same purpose. To me, it's like overkill for such a simple problem. I personally use my cup holder for my phone, but when it has a drink, I use another nook thing that I don't know what the use is for.

  2. I believe companies just want to make more money so they produce a new product. I currently use my cup holder for my cellphone when it is not inside my pocket.

  3. I just put my phone in my pocket, makes a great holder for phones and keys almost like it was made for it...weird lol. I do like the idea though, just for the fact that if you are using your phone for GPS it would work great. There are so many things that are re-engineered, its not even funny.

  5. This idea is pretty useless when it comes to just finding a place for your phone. Everyone already has a place for their phone like in areas mentioned above (nook and cranny below the radio, purse, pocket, etc). However I do agree with Brandon, it could definitely be helpful when using your phone for GPS.
