Not This Pig

"Rather the concern is that in our society, we have been freed to retreat into bubbles of selective information... in flight from the common concerns we must face as Americans." Page 213, chapter 16.

The thing that bothers me the most about this quote, is that it is true. Individuals are exposed to a wide variety of channels of different genres, that they can choose what to feed their minds. I'm guilty of it as well. As an American, I feel I should know what is going on in my own country, but I don't. I don't like news or politics, so I ignore it and change the channel to something of my own interest. We don't have to step out of our bubble and watch something that we don't like if we don't have to.

  2. It is true. We are able to decide what we want to feed our minds with. This is a freedom of ours that some take advantage of. Some people feed their minds with unnecessary things rather than beneficial things.

  4. I believe this a very good point. It goes with the internet as well, there is so much information at people fingertips and the oppurtunity to see other peoples viewpoints and ideas, but many people just go to what they like to see and hear about, like chatting with friends on facebook, or who had the prettiest dress at the oscars. There is the potential for greatness in the internet, and it does help alot, but many people just want to see "drama" because its exciting and distracts you from real life.
